Tourism and Arts Minister Hon. Charles Banda has said Zambia will soon see how best to grow cruise tourism through the use of the available water bodies as the Seychelles’ Head of Mission in Zambia, Jamil (Jimmy) Butt, has said that his country wants to grow a bilateral friendship in line with the General Cooperation Agreement that already exists between the two countries.

Speaking this week when Mr. Butt accompanied by the Port Management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa (PMAESA) Executive Secretary Nozipho Mdawe paid a courtesy call him, Hon. Banda said he was ready to share the idea of diversifying the sector through the use of water bodies.

The Minister said in line with tourism diversification program, Zambia is doing everything possible to let people know that Zambia’s tourism potential is beyond the Victoria Falls.

He said the fact the Tourism Minister of Seychelles has sent an invitation for a possible visit for him to that country, it was a good sign that the region is making efforts to grow their various tourism sectors.

Mr. Butt said Seychelles has for some time now partnered with Zambia through cultural exchange during Livingstone International Cultural and Arts Festival (LICAF).

The Seychelles envoy said it was his Minister’s wish to see Hon. Banda be part of the next FetAfrik celebrations in Seychelles.

Meanwhile PMAESA Executive Secretary Nozipho Mdawe said cruise tourism is working very well where it has started and Zambia could benefit in a similar manner.

Many Tourism Country Representatives discussed the “Cruise Africa” drive by PMAESA, the (Ports Management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa).

African Countries who feel they have facilities and the potential to receive Cruise Ships or to develop cruising in rivers, waterways and lakes will be invited by PMAESA for a meeting in the near future in order to position Cruising in Africa on the agenda for One Africa.
